Blog Post #4

Well, I guess this assignment came just in time because I found a twitter account under my name (middle name included) that is not mine!! A FAKE TWITTER account with my full name…WHOA. I know that I mention the lack of governmental regulation on the Internet in almost every post. However, it is really mind boggling to me that they don’t have stricter legislation and punishment. It is simply too easy to create a fake identity or impersonate someone without repercussions.

On a lighter note, I also found an ‘explore talent” profile that my mom made for me 4 or 5 years ago for acting. It is very embarrassing! There is also a Fame Casting Call post as well as an “instantcastmember” profile. I remember when the industry shifted to online submissions. Everyone used to submit headshots via mail. It was so expensive to get the pictures printed, and you had to have so many. After agencies started going digital, one simply uploaded their headshots and resumes via the Internet or simply made profiles on acting sites (such as explore talent). It completely cut out the middle man-the print store. Additionally, instead of file cabinets, everything was on someone’s hard drive and they could simply search your name to submit you.

There are the posts from other people’s Facebook status’ that mentioned my name. There is an article form a local newspaper from a play I did in high school. There are also posts about a song that I sang in, released this summer. Although I go under a different name for singing, there were some posts referencing the song.

Furthermore, the posts from this class come up almost immediately. It kind of freaked me out. I think that submitting work on a blog is appropriate for an Internet studies class but I wasn’t aware that everything I wrote would be directly connected to my name and pop up on Google. I guess it was a little bit of a wake up call. Anything you write, whether it is on the internet or not, can be posted on the Internet, and on there forever.
