Practicum #5 - Robb
Following the WEAC website while all these budget changes have been in the process of being made is actually very interesting. Obviously by now anyone that was there for my presentation or has been following my blog knows that I follow WEAC and SupportWalker.com, and kind of look at differences and similarities in how they are reaching their target demographics. They are obviously niche markets in both respects, but now WEAC in particular is beginning to reach out and gather more support from individuals outside off that niche. WEAC has been running their "take action" campaign since I've been following the site, but have since put up numerous links for different ways to go about helping the teachers' cause. Now teachers, for the most part, are already fully aware of what to do to help, but by doing this, the website is allowing for others who may not be as close to the situation to lend their support: "Take Action" . As a sort of counter point, It seems like SupportWalker.com is going in the opposite direction. This would make sense considering the present state of affairs, but they have consistently been trying to continue to appeal mainly to just conservatives. All of their links have a republican twist on them and are more opinion based than anything. Really, what it does is fire up supporters that they already have. Now I'm not saying that WEAC doesn't do the same thing, but it seems more like SupportWalker.com isn't trying to expand it's beliefs, while WEAC is trying to do just that.
