Practicum #7- Mike Ou
Crazy coincidence but my CA 351 lecture yesterday featured a guest lecturer on mediated game spaces. He talked to great lengths about a variety of different things you can learn from playing video games (if you are enrolled in 351 you can fill in the gaps) but one thing that came up which was particularly interesting a little part he had about WoW! WOW! Of course my ears perked up and I paid extra close attention...He talked about how WoW, blows everyone out of the water in subscriptions and they have the largest wiki page! I looked into the Wow wiki page yesterday, there are A LOT of discussions on the website. In fact over 90,000 pages! Heavens! Pretty crazy I learned more about Azeroth and other wild things...just crazy! my experience with WOW was not super gratifying but I did see the game from my own eyes in an interesting way.

Im in that class too and I was hoping he would talk more about Call of Duty or some other games that I have played. I spaced out for most of it to be honest. He did talk alot about some army games though and a game/arcade place they use for recruiting or something if I remember. It is interesting how computer/internet games relate to TV as well as how it can be used as recruiting tools etc.
ReplyDeleteSo, my bf played WoW forever but finally let his subscription run out. Anyways, when you mentioned the amount of chat forums for the game I remembered how many youtube videos my bf would watch of people playing wow. It was usually narrated and the game was broken down into like a detailed study. Not for me in particular but the amount of views was absolutely ridiculous!
