Well I just went on ChatRoulette for about 15 minutes. I am a 21 year old girl by myself... it was very interesting to say the least. I first heard of ChatRoulette last year, and can honestly say I wasn't a big fan. It is full of very inappropriate desperate people. I'm sure some looking to meet people as well, but the majority of people I saw were.... hmmm not clothed?
The website explained it is a great way to network and meet people which as I said earlier I agree you really could meet someone on a site like this. But at the same time I think a lot of people take advantage of this website and use it as a joke instead. I have never talked to anyone about ChatRoulette without someone bringing up how many, male private parts they have seen. I think this site has the right idea or online dating kind of, but maybe still hasn't gotten it all figured out. Being able to see someone is a big advantage, and if they keep going with an idea like this it could potentially be pretty cool.

I’ve never been on ChatRoulette myself, but much of my knowledge about it is close to what you knew before trying it – lots of naked dudes. I’ve really had no interest in checking out the site and didn’t understand its appeal. Since the hype about the site really focused on the lack of clothing many of its users choose to exhibit it distracted my attention from what the goal of the site might actually be. I think it really could be a great way of networking and meeting people, but am surprised there aren’t more regulations for the site. Your screen shot is of a 16 year old you met using the site. Kids these days have access to the internet at such a young age, that a site like this poses a threat to what they could be exposed to (I’m going to skip going into a tangent about parental controls and all that). That being said, I wonder why there aren’t more precautions taken or why there aren’t stipulations about what kind of content people can show on the site or maybe that if people are caught exposing themselves on the site they can be kicked off or given a warning.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you mentioned that the site could be used for online dating which I think is a really smart idea. It would be interesting if dating sites maybe started to integrate video chatting to their sites, or even just personal video statements to people’s profiles (not having been to any dating sites myself, perhaps they already have).
