Practicum #1 – Daly
When Twitter first came out I was pretty skeptical. From the way it was being described to me, Twitter was just a take-off of Facebook statuses (i.e. a way for people to inform others on their every action and thought). I was never big on posting Facebook statuses to begin with and didn’t find the need to broadcast my every move to the world, so the idea of Twitter didn’t really grab me as something I would get into. Last September, in a moment of weakness and complete boredom, my roommate (an avid Twitter user and advocate) convinced me to create a Twitter account and in the five months I had the account prior to this project I had only “Tweeted” nine times, six of which were within the first month. My skepticism about the driving force behind Twitter still remains, but as I get more into the social networking site, I am able to better understand some of the driving forces behind it. I will definitely be paying attention to the different ways Twitter can be used. Just as Facebook has developed to include pages for music groups and events, Twitter really seems to be a hotspot for magazines and restaurants to gain further recognition.
