We’ve all got activities that interest us, entertain us, and define our personalities. For each end every one of them, no matter how unique, there is a specialized information website to accompany it. For me, it’s downhill skiing, and over the last couple years I’ve really moved in the direction of park skiing. For all of you who aren’t familiar, park skiing (or freestyle skiing) is the type of skiing with which tricks are usually associated. It usually takes place in a terrain park, which consists of a wide variety of jumps, rails, jibs and other features to session.
For this assignment, I’ve chosen to investigate Newschoolers.com, a special interest website for downhill skiing. Founded in 1999, Newschoolers.com has strived to bring skiers from all over the world together. It is the largest single place that freeskiers gather online, and continues to grow. Members cover a wide range of the skiing world, from amateurs to pros, from ‘backcountry’ skiers to ‘freeride’ and ‘newschool’ skiers, from young kids to old veterans of the sport. Newschoolers.com is basically the big hub for all your skiing information online.

I created a personal account on Newschoolers.com and am looking forward to learning more about the site, and hopefully gaining some knowledge that can help me on the slopes. From the homepage I can access and edit my profile, as well as manage my Newschoolers.com blog. There is a space dedicated to the latest news in the skiing world, featured videos (some uploaded by users and others by ski sponsors), various hill updates, featured blogs, reviews, contests and press releases. Scrolling down, there is a constantly updating feed featuring twitter updates concerning skiing, and some advertisements. The top of the page shows links to pictures, videos, blogs, contests and more. After a bit of getting used to, I find it organized, but it’s distractingly busy at first. There are lots of flashy icons and moving images which draws your attention left and right.

After a basic overlook of Newschoolers.com, I’m stoked to keep looking into the site, and will keep you posted on my findings as they come about.
