The other day I spoke to a fellow “tweeter” about his experience with the social networking site. He said that after two years with an account, despite being a “big tweeter,” he doesn’t think the site is all that great. “There’s still a lot of kinks they have to work out,” he told me. Things he has had trouble with include sometimes the site not letting you follow someone, or occasionally the site will tell you you have “new follower requests” but when you go to see who they are nothing shows up, and the site apparently crashes “all the time.”
Since joining, I have yet to experience the site crashing, but I often have trouble with follower requests. When at my Home page, where I can view the tweets of people and businesses I follow, there is a side bar on the right hand side of the screen that keeps track of how many tweets I’ve posted, my most recent tweet, how many followers I have, who I follow, what is currently “Trending” (something I plan to explore soon), suggestions of who I might wish to follow, AND on the top right corner, it tells me if I have any requests from people wishing to follow me. More times then not, I would say that the alert button tells me an incorrect number of requests, or, upon clicking the button I come to the page shown in the screen shot I included. This can be very frustrating when trying to connect with people in a speedy fashion.
Finally, the other frustration I have with Twitter, is that when I click on a button to try and accept a request or allow someone to follow me, a lot of the time it doesn’t do anything and the request stays there until I refresh the page enough times or simply come back later and try again.
Given that Twitter is only four years in existence I understand there are still things they are figuring out, but by now I would have assumed that they would have the basic, major features figured out
