practicum #1 - Robb

So I've been dealt the practicum assignment of tracking a political activism website, and given the current situation in the state of Wisconsin with the public sector and given my family ties with educators, I've decided to track the Wisconsin Education Association Council's website. I've been watching the site and it's updates every day for the past two weeks, and it's been very interesting for me. One of the biggest things that jumped out at me as far as changes go was that the website has added a direct link on the left hand side, called "Collective Bargaining," and it basically just goes into detail about the types of things Governor Walker allegedly plans to take away. It makes sense that they would add this, given the current situation, and it is a resource for teachers who may not be quite sure what is going on or what sorts of affects this bill will have on their income and benefits. This, to me, was a huge sign of the site become politically active, as it provided a platform to stand on for the teachers that wanted to protest, and wanted a good reason to do so. My presentation is this week, so I will continue to monitor the site, and there will be another post to come.
