Blog#4 Google Yourself
Before googling myself I really had no expectations about finding anything about myself. Rebecca Jones and Becky Jones are both about as common as you can get in the name world. In addition, I don't have a famous youtube video, I haven't had any special athletic achievements, and I've never been arrested. That being said, I went ahead and typed Becky Jones into google. Alas, I am not famous or recognizable enough to appear anywhere in the web search for google. The first page from my search has links for travel agents, a singer in an electro band and a real estate agent from California. Next, I clicked over to see what images existed on google of other Becky Jones' in the world. Imagine my surprise when the very first photo that showed up was actually of myself. I was shocked...and in a sad way somewhat proud...to be the first becky jones among all other (probably) millions of becky jones' in the world. Why did this show up? That's what I'm not quite sure. The picture is from my jiu jitsu teacher's website where there is a testimonial posted that I wrote...along with a headshot. My two conclusions are that #1 either MRJJA.com does a great job advertising and is a go to for google, or #2 after Liz's lecture yesterday, my browser and social networking sites have collectively stalked me to find out what it is that relates best to my life and interests and therefore google has chosen to post those options first. Either way, I'm going to take my bit of happiness and run with it...while ignoring the fact that the first video that shows up is of some trashy girl who thinks she is cool rapping about her name.
