Blog #4 Google Yourself
I have Googled myself in the past and found that the individual who had the same name as myself was far more famous than me. She was about 5 years older than me and was a famous AOL email hacker. Today, though, the first page of searches are mostly about myself. Many have to do with the Wisconsin protests, as I provided photos and interviews for a few news and political blogs as a first hand student account. In addition, some connections to Facebook groups I had at one point joined and sites connecting to my sorority and awards I had won. One site though was slightly disturbing. It was called mylife.com. I have never joined or heard of this site, and yet they have my name, age, and hometown. In addition, they had my mother's information too as well as far more personal details about herself. However, this could not be from her because they have her middle initial incorrect. I investigated the site further and plan to contact them to get our information removed. I'm still trying to figure out how they may have retrieved this. As much as I thought I was protecting myself on the internet, there's still many things that come up using my name that I was unaware of.
