Blog # 7 Tracking an evening of internet activity
Last night I tracked my internet activity from about 5:30pm on. One realization I came to is that I am a compulsive e-mail checker. Because of my school e-mail, my outside of school e-mail, and of course me e-mail from 4th grade that I still use to sign up for everything, I have three different accounts to check daily. Last night, I checked each of the three 8 different times before going to bed. I'm fairly certain this stems from a couple years back, when I used to let my inboxes flood. I would spend far too much time digging through hundreds of e-mails once in a while. Today, it's my preference just to stay on top of my e-mails and delete/read/respond to them as they come in. I also tracked the other websites I went to, which included several news sites, health.com and of course facebook and learn@UW. Very similar to my e-mail, i checked almost all of these sites multiple times. I'm not sure if I'm procrastinating, or afraid of new information emerging that I may miss out on, but I clearly learned that I am fairly dependent on a few core websites. The last thing I learned is how many sites google really does take you to with one search. While looking at dogs to adopt, I went through 28 different websites in less than an hour.
