Blog Post #6: Hulu Vs. Youtube

I watched on Youtube Dream Theater: The Spirit Carries On Episode 1 and on Hulu Family Guy Brothers and Sisters. Both of these videos started out with advertisements. However, Hulu featured three advertisements shown throughout the 20 minute video, and on youtube there was only an advertisement at the beginning and at the end of the show. There are also differences between the way the two websites look like. The main difference between the way the two websites look like is that Hulu's interface looks a lot more sophisticated than youtube. Hulu looks like it is trying to look more professional with a very mature control panel and mature looking logo in order to make people think that it would be worth paying for Hulu Plus. Hulu uses a sleek black control panel, where as Youtube's is red and not so modern looking. Overall, Youtube seems more user friendly and amateur like, and this is probably due to the fact that Youtube is free, and doesn't need to persuade anybody to purchase anything from them. Another reason why Youtube may have a more amateur looking interface is because videos on Youtube are made by amateurs, and videos on Hulu are from certain television networks on television.
