Practicum #5

So I haven't really blogged in a while about how my Second Life experience is going. Well its official I know have more than one friends, I actually have multiple friends. I have been really communicating with one girl in particular, her name is Kailey. At first our chatting was about the game and I was asking her all sorts of questions and then it slowly led into having a real conversation. She also is a student and goes to school in the state of Ohio, wouldn't say which school which I thought was smart. I told her I was a member of Second Life for a school project and she couldn't believe it. She kept saying how easy my school was if this was an assignment and thats were the drama started. I actually got into an argument via Second Life, it was... interesting to say the least. She said I probably go to some joke school up in hicksville Wisconsin, little did she know the University of Wisconsin-Madison is ranked in the top 50 schools in the nation, idiot.

Besides my little argument I have gotten to know the virtual world a lot more. I have a few spots, for example, the drive inn movie theater, that I go to often and that is where I met both my first friend and many more. Obviously its not realistic in the real world to meet people at a movie theater considering talking during a film is frowned upon, but in Second Life thats the place to be from my knowledge. Thats all for now, sorry most of this blog consisted of my fight with Kailey, and yes we did have quite the falling out and are no longer friends haha.

  1. I actually laughed out loud when I read this. Its interesting how online communities can frustrate a person. I've never played Second Life, but I've had a number of arguments in other online communities, mostly video games. I feel like you're encounter, however virtual, was much more realistic than 99% of mine. Most of mine originate from another users unfair kill or modding abilities on Xbox. Obviously I don't walk around shooting people on a daily basis. You could have had your argument walking around campus today, or with someone around the world through your online community. Arguing about something education related seems more important than arguing over a virtual death. I'm sure she was just unwilling to accept our superiority as a Badgers ;) It was probably best to break off that friendship anyways, I mean, especially if she's a Buckeye fan!

  2. If I had a dollar for every time I got into an argument with someone on the internet because they were bagging on Wisconsin, I'd have enough to invent a device that lets you slap someone through the web.
