Over the last few weeks I’ve spent a lot of time investigating Newschoolers.com. I’ve covered the basics of the site, as well as dug deeper into the forum, pictures, videos and community sections. Next up is the store section of the site. Like most sites online, Newschoolers.com isn’t a site made of money. The owners are constantly looking for ways to make money and keep their site on the market. Newschoolers features an assortment of ski gear, ski movies, streetwear and accessories to fit the desires of its users. When a user clicks on the store icon in the main taskbar, they are linked to a featured products page (shown below).

On the left hand side of the page is are links to specific types of products. This includes NS gear, Movies, other brands, and specials. NS gear includes an assortment of big baggy sweaters (some by unique and acclaimed clothing companies like Jiberish), sticker packages to trick out your helmet or other ski gear, accessories like mouse pads, and contributor status purchases. As I mentioned in previous posts and in my presentation, contributor status is just a form of donations on the site. Members can donate anywhere from five to fifty dollars, and they will receive a unique symbol next to their member name. This contributor status just shows that you are a highly valued member on the site. In addition, all their contributions to the site, whether it be blog posts, pictures or videos, are promoted to the top of feeds.

A number of movies are available for purchase on Newschoolers as well. They range from classic ski films to the newest pieces featuring the latest greatest tricks released by the crews of top pros.

The ‘other brands’ section links users to sites that Newschoolers is strongly affiliated with and/or sponsors. These include companies like ‘Ski The East,’ ‘Camp of Champions’ and ‘Voleurz’.

Following the ‘other brands’ section is the ‘specials’ section, which is pretty straight forward, clearance items fill the page. That pretty much sums up the NS Store area of Newschoolers.com. It doesn’t provide much money for the site’s owners, but its enough to keep them going and fulfill the needs of site members.
