Practicum - John #4

After these last several weeks of participating in the different Wikia communities, I've learned a lot about not only the different subject areas of the wikis, but about the proper method for editing articles. Here's some questions to think about.

Have you ever used a Wikia site before?

What was your purpose in doing so? (Business, entertainment, etc)

Do you think these sites could merge into Wikipedia?

  1. I've never been an active Wikia user, but I have been linked to many Wikia sites before, mostly for entertainment purposes. Most of the times I go on to Wikia sites to search for more information on a specific show that I have been interested in or have been watching. If the Wikia page is a well developed webpage, there's a lot of very good information. For example, if I'm interested in a show, I'll take a look into it to get a better preview (characters, episodic plot, etc.).

I don't think it's a bad idea to merge information found on Wikia to Wikipedia. I mean, since Wikia is mostly made up of information written and continually edited from fans or people who are very invested in the subject, I feel like the information on the site is more reliable, and thus, can be very useful in Wikipedia.
